Samaniego Family Pumpkins

This morning I took my ACT again and then for some relaxation we headed over to pumpkin patch with my family and then spent the evening carving my pumpkins.

Three hours later we finished up our pumpkins.

Summer Finale: 31 Mile Backing in Yosemite and Climb Half Dome

On the top of half dome.

My summer vacation comes to a close. I just spent the last 4 1/2 days doing a 31 mile backpacking trip through Yosemite National Park with my Boy Scout Troop 11 and my parents and my 6 year old little sister.

On Day 3 of the hike we climb to Half Dome after 1 hour hike up to sub dome and then to the bottom of the cables. I just got on those cables and pulled myself up and reach the top Half Dome.

What an amazing experience to be in such a beautiful place.

We ended the day with a 10 mile trek to the Yosemite Valley, although it was all done hill it was one of the toughest hikes and yes, my sister did all 31 miles of hiking including climbing up half dome.

What an awesome summer. Here are just a few things I completed in our short summer vacation:

  • United States Naval Academy Summer Seminar – 7 Days
  • California Boys State Program – 7 Days
  • Air Force JROTC Summer Leadership School – 7 Days
  • Marine Corp Devil Pup as Eagle – 14 Days
  • Yosemite 31 Mile Backpacking Trip – 4 Days

School starts in 14 days, so I need to start studying for ACT exams.

8 Mile Hike to Mazanita Peak

2013-07-13 08.49.32

I got home yesterday from Air Force JROTC Summer Leadership School. Then I overhead my parents they where going on a 8 mile training hike this morning to Mazanita Peak in the San Bernardino National Forest.

“Mazanita Peak?”

I’ve never done that hike. So instead of getting some rest today to get ready for my two weeks with Devil Pups. I went on the hike with my parents and my Boy Scout Assitant Scoutmaster Mr. Kerhylein aka “daddddy.”

I figured I needed to get a least one hike in this summer before our big hike to Yosemite Half Dome in 3 weeks.

I get at least 10 days rest this summer before school starts.

Awesome Week of NYLT Mataguay

Last Week i went to NYLT which stands for National Youth Leadership Training. We had a lot of fun learning about leadership skills and camping. The best parts of the trip are secret so by Scout Honor i am not aloud to tell you. But the worst part about the trip were the flies. The flies are an endangered species that bite.Anyways i had a lot of fun and i am hopping they choose me to be a Staff for next year!

Chili Cook off Coming soon

Here a video i made for the coming up trip Joshua Tree showing what we do in the chili cook off!

Troop 11 Santa Rosa Island Trip

On August 9 i went to probably the best camping trip this year! At Santa Rosa I went on a hike to Lobo Canyon there I saw a big crevice in the land and we hung out there looking for foxes. On that same hike we went to the other side of the island where there was a cliff that led strait into the ocean. There we ate lunch and i try to cast my line to go fishing….but no bites. The next day i decided to go to the beach and make a giant sand castle mountain. When high tide came in it collapsed, that’s when i saw one of our adult leaders catch a fish. I ran to go get my fishing pole and started catching (not fishing). That evening i caught five fish and I let one go(to earn my fishing merit badge.Overall this was probably the best camping trip this year.

White-water Rafting

Last Weekend. I went white-water rafting in the Kern River with Troop 11 Scouts and as my family as a vacation. My family and I went early because we didn’t want to drive in the dark and we wanted to get our tents up early and get settled in and relax the rest of the day.

When we got to camp it took a long time because both of the tent poles broke, but we still got the tent to work. We also put an air mattress for my grandma in her tent.We barely got the bed to fit be we did. Later my dad and grandma made  delicious  carne-asada tacos while we were waiting for the Troop 11 scouts to show up. When they showed up our patrol set up the tent and our sleeping bags and went to sleep.

The next day we were preparing to get on the rafts by getting life-vest on and ores. The life vest were so tight I couldn’t breathe. The instructor said if you can’t breathe it is on right.

My dad, mom, uncle Shawn and two scouts Peter from the Rhino patrol and Ventura from the Kodiak patrol was in our raft. We went down many rapids and when we got to beaver pond the instructors made a slide with the rafts. We went on a class three rapid and our raft quickly fell over on most of us fell in the freezing cold water.

Quickly, We all got rescued by the other rafts. Later that day we went to have lunch at the Pizza Barn. After I was full of pizza i went to go take a nap. We had a good time at the campfire , there were many skits and jokes that made it a good night.

Ill talk to you later.
