Congressional Nomination Interview – Done

Andrew Samaniego

Today, my dad drove me up to Apple Valley to do my congressional nomination interview with Congressman Paul Cook’s office. There were 3 military representatives along with a local community leader and a member of Congressman Cook. I felt good after the interview and they said we should find out the results in a few weeks.

So now I am finally finished with applying and interviewing to 5 Service Academies, 9 colleges and two ROTC scholarship interviews.

The waiting game has begun and now it’s time for him to just enjoy that last 6 months of high school.

American Legion 76th Boys State was amazing.

Group Photo of my City of Drake American Legion Boys State

Had an amazing time at California’s Boy State program. I got to create our own city, county and state governments to learn how it works.

I got the chance to meet the best of the best future citizens of California, I was also appointed the head of security under secret service for the governor of California.

I ran for Senate office, unfortunately I was not elected, but I learned a lot about the political process of running for office.

I have learned how corrupt politics can be if you have the wrong people in an office, and I have gained much more respect to politicians as they try to help improve the country that is tough job trying to get anyone to agree on anything almost seem impossible.

I wanted to thank the American Legion organization especially my local American Legion Post #426.

I get to spend next few days at home relaxing just for little bit because I leave for JROTC Air Force Summer Leadership School at March Air Force Base here in California for 7 days.

I check with you all later..

P.S. Below are some pictures from my Boys State Trip and few awards.

Leaving for California Boys State

Samaniego ready to attend American Legion Boys State Program

Today at 8pm I leave for Sacramento to attend the 76th annual American Legions Boys State Program. I am pretty tired after my flight back from Annapolis, Maryland last night.

I am looking forward to seeing what Boys State is all about and meeting the “Best of Best” in the
State of California.

I already know a few people that went to The United States Naval Academy the same time I did will also be attending Boys State.

Redlands Daily Facts Online Article - Andrew and Patrick selected to Boys State Program

Last night my dad was reading the Redlands Daily Facts online and found this article with my fellow Eagle Scout, Patrick Beaty.

We are both current members of Redlands Boy Scout Troop 11 and where selected for the Boys State Program.

There is actually another former member of Troop 11, who is also an Eagle Scout that was selected to attend Boys State Program. He is my former patrol member George Beal. Congrats to both of them for this great accomplishment.

Samaniego chosen as delegate for Boys State

Samaniego chosen as delegate for American Legion Boys State.

This morning my dad opened the paper and saw this article in our local paper, The Yucaipa News Mirror, posted about my selection into Boy’s State Program.

It is a huge honor to learn more about how our government works and looking forward to maybe some day following steps of my congressman, Col. Paul Cook of the 8th Congressional district.

It’s official I am a Boy State Delegate

Boys State

Earlier I mailed off my “Blue Card” to American Legion that confirmed I was chosen as one of California’s Boys State Delegate for American Legions Boys State 76th Session in Sacramento in late June.

Boys State is one of the most respected and selective educational programs of government instruction for United States high-school students.

The program enables students to learn about the operation of local, county and state government. This sounds like a ton of fun.

I know I am going busy this summer. Two days after school is over, I am leaving for Annapolis, Maryland for The Navy Academy’s Summer Seminar for a week.

Once I get home, I leave 12 hours later for Boy’s State in Sacramento.

I am still waiting to hear if I was chosen to go back to Marine Corp. Devil Pup program as an “Eagle Mentor” that would be in mid-July.

Until then have to keep working out to get ready for my fitness test at the Naval Academy this summer.
