It’s Official: Congressional Nomination

Congressional nomination to West Point, Naval Academy, and US Merchant Marine Academy

I just got my official letter from Congressman Col. Paul Cook (Ret.). I received a congressional nomination to United States Military Academy (West Point), the United States Naval Academy, and the United States Merchant Marine Academy.

I am excited, humbled, and grateful for the nominations. I know this step gets me closer to my dream of becoming officer in the United States Miltary.

I received a JRROTC nomination to the Air Force Academy few weeks ago so I have been nominated to all the service academies.

For those that may not understand how nomination works, receiving a nomination to the academies does not guarantee you an appointment to the academy. However, not having a nomination you cannot be admitted to a service academy if you are selected. So I am closer to possibly being appointed.

Thank you Congressman Paul Cook, and huge thank you to Jan Leja and Matt Knox at Congressman Cooks office.

Thank you to Eamonn McGloin, Woody Andrews, Charlene Varela, and my dad for helping me with my prep for the nomination interview and for all those that took the time to write recommendation letters: Mr. McGloin, Col. Dente, Mr. Foster, and Col. Maldanado.

The waiting is the hardest

Congressman Col. Paul Cook, Ret., California District 8

It has been two weeks since my congressional nomination interview with Congressman Paul Cook office in California District 8, and I am still waiting for the results, sometimes that is the hardest part.

I know someone in my district who recently found out he was nominated to USNA and West Point. I was happy for his nomination it must have felt great finding out.

Hopefully, I will know my results soon. I know January 31 is deadline for the service academies to get results.

On a different subject, the other day I got TWE (Tiny White Envelope) from the Naval Academy and that kinda of scared me.

A TWE is usually a bad thing, typically a kind rejection letter. Luckily, it was just Naval Academy informing me that the Vice-President received my request for Vice-Presidential nomination.

So I sit here fingers crossed I get my nomination to my primary choice the United States Naval Academy, however, any nomination to any academy is a complete honor.

This was our first hike of the year. We hike about 10 miles total. It was great hike to start year and my last time here with the Scouts.

Congressional Nomination Interview – Done

Andrew Samaniego

Today, my dad drove me up to Apple Valley to do my congressional nomination interview with Congressman Paul Cook’s office. There were 3 military representatives along with a local community leader and a member of Congressman Cook. I felt good after the interview and they said we should find out the results in a few weeks.

So now I am finally finished with applying and interviewing to 5 Service Academies, 9 colleges and two ROTC scholarship interviews.

The waiting game has begun and now it’s time for him to just enjoy that last 6 months of high school.

What is Murder Board? I learned about it at Greystone Prep School website. The Murder Board is a professional preparation for the actual congressional nomination interview.

I decided I like to do a practise interview that will happen today.

My Dad helped me get few local professionals from our community to ask me questions that where asked to other Service Academies candidates.

My congressional nomination interview with Congressman Paul Cook office is tomorrow at 3pm.

I think this will be great practise to see how I can have the best congressional nomination.
