Samaniego chosen as delegate for Boys State

Samaniego chosen as delegate for American Legion Boys State.

This morning my dad opened the paper and saw this article in our local paper, The Yucaipa News Mirror, posted about my selection into Boy’s State Program.

It is a huge honor to learn more about how our government works and looking forward to maybe some day following steps of my congressman, Col. Paul Cook of the 8th Congressional district.

Bronze Eagle Award

It feels good to advance...

Last Wednesday, I was the master of ceremony for our bi-annual Court of Honor ceremonies. There where about 140+ (Scouts and family members) people attending

We welcomed 14 new members to our Troop 11. I believe now our troop is just over 70 members.

That is a lot people to be in charge off, but I enjoy the challenge.

We rank advanced our scouts, awarded merit badges, and awarded the Paul Foster Eagle Scout Scholarship to my friend, Colin Shaffer.

I was also awarded the “Bronze Award” for my Eagle Status. I heard that only 1 in 10 Eagle Scout ever earned that “Bronze Award.” I also received 4 additional merit badges: Climbing, Scholarship, Engineering, and Cinematography.

But most importantly we kept our “Coffee Pot” Award for winning Pop Nye Challenge again.

Here, few pictures from that night.

Troop 11 wins the 2013 Boys Scout Pop Nye Competition

Troop 11 Rhino Patrol - Pop Nye Competition

What an amazing weekend. On Friday and Saturday, our boys scout troop competed in the 39th annual Pop Nye boy scout challenge competition. The last two years my patrol the “Rhino” Patrol had won the competition.

This year I was the leader of Troop 11 and my first concern was for our Troop to win the competition and keep the “Coffee Pot” Trophy here at Troop 11.

My saying was, “Not on my watch!”

I also got to compete in the competition as a member of my patrol, “The Rhinos.”

This year we only had 3 members left in our patrol: Antonio, Kevin, and myself.

It would be tough to win this competition, but possible.

After 14 events: Rifle shooting, fire building, first aid, obstacle course, knot tying, plant id, human ladder, zip line, archery, leave no trace, and few others.

We actually won the 1st place in field events! But we lost points in our camping scores (scouts always remember to put up your “rain fly”) so we came in the 3rd place overall.

But most importantly our TROOP 11 Kodiak Patrol (and my good friends) took the 1st place overall.

It was amazing the time with all the scouts and great competition. But I promise you Mr. Norris (Scoutmaster).

Here are just a few pictures from this amazing event.
